Yet another postcard from Leonard arrived this morning. The design on
the front is quite tame given Leonard’s usual enthusiasm for sharing his
favourite works of art (it is simply silver stars on a blue background) and the
message on the reverse cryptically reads:
‘Do not be afraid to buck the goal of ordinance, but remember, as
Tennyson’s Tithonus rightly said, "the Gods themselves cannot recall their
gifts".’
I enjoy receiving these postcards from Leonard and I am first out of bed
each mornings to check the post before Alex gets up for work. I keep each one
hidden in my bedside drawer like a secret memento of a past lover and on
reflection I am not sure why I am so secretive about them - you would think
that they are obscenely pornographic at the very least!
